On December 16th in 2020, JB received an email in their MachineElf inbox from Lackawanna College asking if I’d be interested in an exciting new project. In partnership with the City of Scranton, Lackawanna College was seeking a Cares Act Grant to help struggling restaurants in the Greater Scranton Area. As we all know, the pandemic has had a major negative impact on a number business sectors - especially the restaurant industry. Without an online presence, many establishments were closing their doors for good. This Cares Act Grant would offer 36 restaurants a FREE website, including instructional and educational components. Since my first business, MachineElf, wasn’t the best fit for the job, I began the journey to start Machi-Systems, LLC. I then created and developed a platform and business model around the grants needs and objectives.

docs.machi-systems.com about all our documents “we’ve Machi-Systems launches a document center with things like privacy policies, corporate governance and a bug bounty program just for you hackers. Keep in mind that docuementation is a “privilege not a right man” as the hacker Emmanuel Goldstein would say. A lot of junk is still marked as “coming soon” hopefully we get to document our build before another release...who knows, so much to do so little time.

It’s official! On February 5th, Machi-Systems was officially awarded the Care Act Grant through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). As you can imagine, this awesome news injected great excitement into the Machi-Systems’ team. Over the next few month, a whirlwind of activity commenced as we worked tirelessly to get our Web Design and Learning Platform up and running and ready for first cohort of participants in early May. The “Live-Fire”, to demonstrate the platform, was tentatively scheduled for mid-April.

Another important milestone occurred on March 3rd, when Machi-Systems, LLC officially become incorporated. This is when we began the process of creating our brand and image. Once that was accomplished, we developed and printed custom marketing tools - including an instructional booklet called “The Machi-Systems Guide”. The guide included details about the web design process, as well as worksheets to assist with things like writing content.

Thanks to the Venture Lab at Lackawanna College, we received some much needed capital to continue developing the Machi-Systems platform. The Microloan awarded was a huge help and we are extremely grateful to the Venture Lab for making funds like these available to entrepreneurs. It’s an awesome program for any new small business - and the support received goes far above and beyond monetary assistance.

<aside> 🎉 New Features
The “Live-Fire” took place on April 19th. This was the culmination of months and months of hard work by the entire Machi-Systems’ team. At the Live-Fire, we demonstrated the platform we build to help restaurants build their very own FREE website. This included an active hands-on, step-by-step run through of the course - as the participants would be experiencing it. We are pleased to report that the Live-Fire Launched without a hitch! Now we were ready to take it into the classroom.

The course, which started on May 5th, consisted of 5 weekly sessions that took place at Lackawanna College. The participants chose a template, provided assets, and worked on their websites with the assistance of the Machi-Systems’ team. On June 10th, our first client went live! This was so rewarding - not only for the restaurant owner, but also for us! As is the case with all learning and educational endeavors, some students finished quicker than others and some needed more help and time than others. Therefore, the launch dates for the sites were variable, but still completed in a timely fashion.

For online ordering, Machi-Systems has offered our clients SelfServeMenu.com. It’s a great platform and works well with other, 3rd party delivery options. On June 29th, Machi-Systems and SelfServeMenu.com teamed up with Oracle - who is one of the largest software companies in the world by revenue and market capitalization. This partnership took SelfServeMenu.com to the next level - and beyond!

<aside> 🎉 New Features
While we were busy helping others build their websites, we were also busy building our own. The timing of the CBGB grant and the whirlwind that followed to start the project on time, made our restaurant clients our #1 priority. Many of them launched their own sites long before we did - lol! Finally, on September 1st a soft-launch of Machi-Systems’ site occurred. And... like we tell our clients... a website is a living, breathing document and should be constantly evolving. Such is the case with Machi-Systems.com, too!

Better Business Bureau accreditation is, in our opinion, a must. On October 29th, Machi-Systems officially became BBB Accredited. Wooooohooooo!!!
